Foster Update ~

Buddy is doing just great with us. He is not fearful at all anymore and just cuddles and plays all day. He is great at fetching and brings the ball right back to us. He is so sweet with our dogs and is becoming quite the cuddler with us. We have been crating him during the day and he is fine with that. When we get home he is sitting in his crate just waiting for us. It is too cute. We are fattening him up as quick as we can without overfeeding him. He will be one big handsome boy.

Foster Update ~

Dogs really are amazing! When we brought Buddy home last night he was very timid. When we leaned in to pet him he would practically cower. The poor guy seems to not have had a very good life so far. He is very slim and is probably about 10-15 pounds underweight now. I bet he lacked love and a good meal living with his former 'owners'.

But what a difference just a day makes! Last night he learned to follow the pack around (we have a pair of 6 year old black labs plus a visiting foster) and after I took the time to sit down and cuddle him?he followed me around too. He scarfed down his dinner and breakfast and I fought back the urge to give him unlimited food. He is such a handsome boy already. He looks like a Golden Retriever/Lab mix and is just adorable. They probably named him Buddy because he looks like Air Bud with shorter fur. When he fills out and gains the weight he will be about 80-85 pounds and will be even cuter than he is now. He has not had a single accident in the house and learned to use the doggie door in one try. He slept in the bed with me and the other 3 dogs (I know?it is crazy!) and cuddled right up next to me. We have found that is a great way to get a dog integrated into the pack. This morning he was all smiles and is gaining confidence by the minute. He is adorable and a great dog already, but give him a little more time and he will be amazing!!

He is in the right spot to gain some confidence and get lots of love and food. I am charging my camera so will take some pics tonight and send them over soon.

Buddy has a very interesting story - it was a twist of fate that he came to be with Atlanta Lab. Stay Tuned :)

Buddy and Timmie were two labs in Walton County, we were intent on bringing Buddy in and a fellow rescuer Timmie. The next day, both were suddenly listed as adopted. And then we received the below..

I used to do rescue in Michigan and recently moved here. I saw an adorable 2 year old yellow lab named 'Buddy' the day I went to the shelter to adopt an older black lab (Timmie). I HAD to save Buddy from being euthanized. My intention was to have him vetted, trained and ready for a new family who could love him forever. Unfortunately, I can't keep him at my farm much longer since he has managed to figure out how to climb my waterfall, over the fence and chase my horses. Buddy is such a joy, but he will get hurt scaling fences and chasing horses. Let me just reiterate it is only because of the way my yard is landscaped that he gets over the fence. There is a concrete and rock waterfall that is in one corner and he simply climbs it and hops on over into the pastures to visit with the horses and donkeys ;)

I am keeping him safe for now but he needs more room to run! I bought him a halter to walk in and he does MUCH better with that versus a straight leash. He just needs someone to teach him the basics, to continue to be polite. He is playful, cute, smart, loving and active. Buddy is good with other dogs~ I have five others! He chases cats, I have lots of those too. He loves to play with basketballs and chase them all over the field. My kids play soccer with him and he loves it. He is great with the kids. He would thrive in a home with children who will play with him, walk him, swim with him, etc. He loves water!

I continue to work with him daily on his manners too, teaching him to sit, walk on a leash and not drag someone, etc. He is still a work in progress but easily trainable, coming along nicely. Considering he was left tied to a tree at his old house, STARVING, when his owner was sent to jail, none of this is Buddy's fault. He is still very thin, but is being fed quality food now.

Buddy needs a good solid foundation, an incredible family who will let him be the loving lab he yearns to be. Can you take Buddy and help him find a forever family? I am sending the only photo I have so far from animal control, I will take more if you'd like, I can also do a video of him with the basketball!! I just couldn't let another great dog die so needlessly.
