Foster Video ~

A SECOND CHANCE. Our heart goes out to this boy. Providing Jake with a family of his own where he will be loved and cherished is our goal. He's waited 4 long, lonely years and we think he's long overdue.

Jake has been an outdoor dog all his life (my neighbor got him when he was 1, I think, and he is almost 5). He started his life on a tether outside until I insisted that the owner build a pen. His owner does not interact with Jake with any affection. Despite that, Jake has a very sweet temperment and no signs of aggression despite the neglect he's suffered. He loves my husband and I, would follow us anywhere, I think. He is so ready to bond with humans! I have 2-16 year old goldens plus 2 other rescued dogs, 2 cats and 2 parrots, so we can't take him. But, we are always looking out for Jake's well being.

Having seen him over the years when he escapes his pen, he is 60 or so lbs. of enthusiasm. When Jake gets out, after a little run around, he comes to our house because he knows we'll give him the attention he so sorely needs. If it weren't for the fact that I am home all day, Jake might be to California by now! Last Saturday, we returned him to his pen 5 times--the owner was out of town, of course. My husband finally took the time to patch the fence.

His owner feeds him but doesn't touch him, doesn't play with him, doesn't clean up the pen, etc. Jake's in there 24/7 by himself. Last year I convinced the owner to take the dog to get vetted, his rabies shots, etc.

I am not comfortable saying that he is good with children and other dogs because he's never had the opportunity to interact with them :( I think on a leash when introduced to other animals and children, you would find that there would be no problem. He learns quickly but would benefit from some basic obedience training.

I've attached some pics of Jake. He is a SWEET dog!! Below are some of my observations. If you need any more information, please let me know.

- He's a sweet, affectionate dog who is ready to bond with a special human.

- He's so starved for attention that if you offer him a treat in one hand and the other hand to pet him, he'd taking the petting.

- He is very friendly, loves to play, run and chase balls. Like most lab mixes, he is full of energy. Jake's had to amuse himself. Jake is lucky if his owner throws him tennis balls or empty milk cartons over the fence :(

- He's lived outside all his life but I believe that with some basic obedience training he could adapt to being a member of the right family. We were able to teach him to sit in about 10 minutes.
