Look closely, everyone assumes this sweet yellow lab is a senior girl, she's not. Laurel is only 1 to 2 years old. She has a sparkle in her eyes as vibrant as they come and teeth as clean as a whistle. It is the condition of her coat and her ears that have aged her. She was picked up as a stray in Warner Robins and her pictures just haunt us. As many times as I have posted her out and viewed her pics, they still bring me to tears. Laurel has experienced such severe allergies that hematoma upon hematoma have formed as a result of scratching, pawing and shaking her head violently in protest. Desperate to find relief, it never came - no one has bothered to treat their girl. And yes, she was picked up with a collar, she is not a stray. Now disfigured, her ears are so cauliflowered it appears as if she has been boxed upside the head. Even now, as I write this, my heart goes out to her and my eyes well up. She was pleading for help, reaching out for rescue and imploring someone to please help her. And, we did. I am so fortunate to be involved with a rescue group whose founders are so compassionate. Laurel thanks them from the bottom of her heart, I do too. |
