Foster Update ~
She is such a cool dog (do we say that about them all??). I think that she is most if not all German Shorthaired Pointer. She has that body type and the shorter fur and is a total hunting dog. She was totally hyper the first day and did not settle down at night. She would wake up every time I moved and bark and try to cuddle, but it was a violent, thrashing kind of cuddling. That was Friday night.
So on Saturday we got to run her around a lot with the kids and take them all for a long walk. She needs work on the leash, but she is small enough where it is still easy to control her. She gets along well with Marley and Grace and she wrestled for hours with my friend's yellow lab puppy. Saturday night she just curled up on the doggie bed or on the bed with us and slept the whole night. She definitely needs a big fenced backyard and someone who will play and run her around.
Yesterday we went to the dog park and she was so great. She will fetch a little, but just loved to chase me around and the other dogs. And again?slept like a log.
This morning we woke up and ran 5 miles together before crating her for the work day. We had crated her for a few hours on Sat and Sun to get her used to it. She cries a little at first, but is just fine being crated. We throw a bone in there and she hops right in.
So she needs a very active family. She is pretty energetic and might not be great with little kids just because she paws and jumps a little, but she is quickly learning the rules. She must have a large fenced yard so that she can run. She was outside just running figure 8s last night hunting for something :) And she is already flourishing under routine. A runner would be great for her. She is the best running partner we have ever had. She just puts her head down and pulled me along. I had to pull her back to get her a little closer to my speed, but still ended up running 5 miles about 5 minutes faster than I would have alone. I would not mind keeping her for awhile since it is great motivation for me to get out and run!
I will take some pics and send those over this week.
Lola is a charmer! An absolute hoot! Rest assured, she delights in herself and her expectations are you will too. She's giddy on life, heady with enthusiam and its darn near impossible not to get caught up in her joy de vivre. Keep in mind she's slowly but surely rounding the corner to that all important benchmark, 2 years old! So while we expect Lola's exuberance will endure, it will be tempered somewhat as she leaves puppyhood behind and rolls into the next phase!
Hand in hand with growing up, Lola will also fill out . She's skinny right now due to poor nutrition, but her build dictates she will always be a petite little labby :) She's developed a penchant for treats and is well on her way to regaining her girlie figure. Her coat remained unaffected, she is dressed in rich chocolate head to toe. She's truly darling, in spirit and in life. With oodles of friends at her beck and call, Lola is in search of a home of her own to do some proper entertaining - invitations for playdates await!
