Here's Maverick! (fka Magic) Here we go...from his foster's mouth straight to your ears! (and hopefully your heart).... Mav is a very smart and super loving dog. Also, a lucky one...he was picked up as a stray and rescued minutes before the shelter was slated to put him down. ALR had hoped for an easy transition for him, it was not to be. Mav contracted kennel cough aggravated by a secondary respiratory infection immediately upon arriving at the vet clinic. Ordinarily, recovery would have been cause to celebrate, but for Mav it only meant he was well enough to be neutered. So at the end of the day, this little guy ended up living in a crate for nearly 2 months. I met him, fell in love and decided I could not let him go back to life in a cage. He is now a temporary part of my canine family. Cletus and Maggie have accepted him well and he gets along great with all other dogs. He absolutely relishes playing with other dogs but when he is done playing loves to snuggle up with them or at my feet. He loves people and kids too! This guy is somewhere around 8-9 months old - he walks up to children very calmly and does not jump or knock them down. Impressive attributes for a Lab puppy! He absolutely loves squeaky toys. I have a whole basket full of them for my two dogs and Maverick will pull every single one out and play with them. It is a little like having a 3 year old - I am picking up stuffed animals constantly. But it is very sweet to see him play with them. Although he loves to mouth his toys, he has not chewed on anything since I have had him. My precious shoes remain intact and untouched....whew! He was house trained in 1 day and is in the process of learning the basic commands. He does really well on a leash and would make an excellent running buddy for someone who likes to run...or walk...or hike! I have a feeling he really likes water too. I put him in my walk in shower to clean him up when I first got him....he laid down on the shower floor and let me scrub him from head to toe. I believe he thought he was at a Doggy Day Spa - laid himself out and allowed me to pamper him. I doubt he ever got this much human attention before.
Speaking of water, today my hunch was confirmed! He loves water and swimming - all 3 dogs went into the creek and splashed around this morning - they had a blast! Trying to wash and dry 3 dogs at once is a feat! I briefly considered naming him Hoover or Kirby - because he inhales food! I decided on Maverick, after the Tom Cruise character in Top Gun. This boy is built for speed, is incredibly handsome, has jet black hair, a strong nose and is slightly rebellious but totally irresistible and trainable too! Please pass this information onto any of your animal loving friends - this sweet boy deserves a great home! I will gladly introduce him to anyone qualified to adopt him. I am very happy that me and my dogs get to spend some time with this sweet boy!
