Meet Trader Joe - A plus sized sweetheart!
When I first Met Trader, the word that popped into my mind was REGAL. He sort of took my breath away - he's simply stunning. I greeted him with a bone and a bear hug. He was all about me and wanted nothing to do with his treat. With chaos all around him, Trader was completely nonplussed. He is a subdued sort of chap (yes, chap - he's an English labby) and would be a fabulous companion for someone that enjoys the soothing presence of a calmer dog. He has a very 'chill' personality and for a big dog, (with a traditional blocky head), he's not noticeable in the house...so quiet! He didn't know a whole lot of basic commands originally (or maybe he was testing our dog savvy!) but his newfound love of attention has caused him to rethink his game. Either that or he is sharp as a tack because he has picked up doggy manners in record time. He simply needed some fine tuning and has since learned to sit and stay, ['stay' is still a work in progress : ) ]. We're still in awe of this big boy, never once a jumper, no wild tendencies and is sweet, sweet, sweet! He's also a curious, cautious boy - feeling out his new world and loving every minute of his freedom from the shelter kennel. His first night out, he did the perimeter walk all around his fosters fence - checking everything out. When she opened the door to call him in, he was hesitant but eventually sensed it was okay. It was a whole lot cooler inside too! Initially, he just sniffed around inside the house getting his bearings - nose to the ground, looking up quizzically. We ought maybe to have named him George. Curious he is. En route to the car, he decided to check out the woods but came running back into his fosters arms after stretching his legs for a bit. He has a great personality and is such a happy boy and as excited to see his foster as he would be an owner that had him for years. He has a robust love for everyone, including other dogs. He doesn't play rough, is equally as comfortable in the presence of a small beagle as other dogs his size, no dominance issues and doesn't appear alpha either. Last we heard, he was napping inside, dreaming of things to come.
